Witnessing Christ to others is a proof of commitment to Christian faith

MEMORY VERSE: And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15).

SETTING THE SCENE

The church never existed to occupy space. Jesus, when he addressed His disciples before He went back to heaven, never pictured in His mind a church that would be busy with church programmes for programme sake. Rather, He envisioned a going church that would be on the move evangelizing the lost world. Today, however, the church has left its divinely assigned mission of evangelizing and making of disciples to its newfound hobby of erecting walls of denominations and creating schism in the body of Christ. God, however, wants the church to return to the Great Commission to lead the lost world to Christ before His second advent.

  1. THE MANDATE OF THE GREAT COMMISSION

Mandate means an official command or instruction from an authority. It is important to note that the statement of the Lord Jesus Christ in both Matt. 28:19 and Mark 16:15 is not an opinion. It is a command, a mandate. It is because a large segment of the church sees these passages as opinion; they have failed to take their contents seriously. Jesus said “If you love me keep my commandment” (John 14:15).

Can we reasonably say we love the Lord Jesus when we willfully refuse to carry out His instruction? Certainly not. If we claim we love Him, we must be willing to carry out His instruction.

  • THE CONTENT OF THE GREAT COMMISSION

The content of the Great Commission is go and preach. It is important to note that it is not “stay and preach”, but “go and preach.” We find it easy to stay and preach today, rather than to go and preach as the Lord Jesus commanded. If we stay in the church to preach, we will not have people to preach to. We MUST go out. We must leave the church and go into the streets of towns and cities. Unfortunately people are fighting for positions in the church while Satan is dragging people meant for God’s kingdom into the road to Hell Fire.

  • THE AGENCY OF THE GREAT COMMISSION

In both passages cited Matt. 28: 16-20 and Mark 16:15-20, the Lord was addressing His disciples. He was giving the instructions to His earthly disciples and not angels. God does not expect the angels to carry out the Great Commission. He expects men, His disciples, you and me to do it. The Great Commission is not meant for pastors and ordained evangelists to carry out. It is meant for all believers. We are the agents of the Great Commission.

  • THE URGENCY OF THE GREAT COMMISSION

The Great Commission is an urgent assignment. The mandate does not accept procrastination. The number of people dying and going to hell is alarming. Each passing moment is essentially crucial in the life of man (Matt. 24:43). No man can predict the time of death or the time of the Lord’s return, therefore, we must be urgent about reaching out to world with the message of salvation. The time is now, and not tomorrow.

LIFE APPLICATION

Draw out your own plan and find someone to give the message of salvation today. Do not postpone. Make sure that you lead someone to Christ this week. He that winneth souls is wise (Pro. 11:30).
