And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:2 KJV
Our society is groaning under a neck-breaking weight of noise pollution: Noise of compromise, noise of rebellion against God and all that is morally right. There is the noise of emerging trends of ungodliness and moral decadence. Every new day, new ways of corruption and moral laxity are being invented. A keen observer will notice that virtually all that were frowned at, about a decade ago, as societal ills have now been endorsed as acceptable tradition. Even the sane is confused; the upright is drawn, by the magnetic power of ungodliness, to accept the trend as normal. The fear of looking odd is piling irresistible pressure even on the righteous to succumb to the “new normal,” but wait…, What does the manual of life, the Bible, say?
“Be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind….” God wants you to stand out and stand different. Everyone may be in the bandwagon, but not you. Jesus is not coming for the bandwagon riders, the multitude. He is coming for the remnant. The few that would stand out and stand different. There are times that even the strongest is tempted to think and behave like every other bandwagon rider, but God always gives victory. Even this warning to you is a divine tool for victory today.
The bandwagon riders normally get lost in history but those who stand out make headlines in the annals of history. In the days of Noah, there were about 600,000 people in the world. Eight (only those in Noah’s household) were saved. The rest were bandwagon riders, they all perished.
In Babylon, during the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, the dreaded emperor constructed an image which he commanded his subjects, in a colourful and glamorous ceremony, to bow and worship as God. As is always the case, the multitude obeyed; only three heads shot up in the stadium amidst the mammoth crowd: Shedrach, Meshach and Abednego (three Hebrew lads). They stood out, won the wrath of the emperor and the hateful multitude and were thrown into a blazing furnace. The soldiers who took them to furnace were all consumed by the heat of the fire but the trio with a difference were dancing in the furnace unhurt. The emperor went into a trance and saw a fourth person among the three. The fourth man, according to the heathen emperor, was like the “Son of God” (may the Son of God show forth for you in adversity as you decide to stand different for God in Jesus’ name). Nebuchadnezzar made a counter decree that the lads be brought up out of the furnace. He further decreed that all nations in his empire should serve and worship only the God of Shedrach, Meshach and Abednego thenceforth ( meaning they should abandon the impotent image which he has crafted). Those boys stood different and changed the course of history. May God depend on you to bring an end to the tradition of corruption, lawlessness and immorality that have defaced our society.
When you think with the crowd, you cannot think right; but when you stand different your God-inspired ideas will cause the multitude to drift towards your excellent thinking. Be ye transformed (different, changed from the usual) by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove the good, acceptable and perfect will of God for your life and generation. Stand different, don’t blend.
